As a media representative

Information for media representatives attending a public inquest hearing

An inquest is an open hearing and members of the public, including the media, may attend.

Updated court lists are maintained on our website’s Court Diary.

All media queries should be emailed to [email protected]

Media representatives attending an inquest hearing must take account of the following:

  • Recording and note-taking – audio recording is not permitted. Mobile phones should be on silent mode. Laptops may be used only for note-taking.
  • Photography on court premises is not permitted.
  • Interviewing or questioning of the family is prohibited on court premises.

Reporting on inquests serves the public interest by providing the public with insight into deaths investigated by the Coroner. The sensitivity of inquests to bereaved family members should be borne in mind in any reports.

Following the conclusion of an inquest, copies of the inquest files can be obtained from the Coroner’s Office. These reports provide detailed findings and conclusions.

An administrative fee may apply.
